RAISE Act of 2023

1/9/2024, 6:39 PM

Summary of Bill HR 3264

The RAISE Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 hr 3264, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of reforming the country's immigration system. The bill proposes significant changes to the current immigration policies, with a focus on prioritizing high-skilled immigrants and reducing family-based immigration.

One of the key provisions of the RAISE Act is the establishment of a points-based system for evaluating potential immigrants. This system would assign points to applicants based on factors such as education level, English proficiency, job skills, and age. The goal of this system is to attract immigrants who are more likely to contribute to the US economy and society.

Additionally, the bill seeks to reduce the number of family-based visas available each year. Currently, a significant portion of US immigration is based on family ties, but the RAISE Act aims to shift the focus towards employment-based immigration. This change is intended to ensure that immigrants coming to the US are able to support themselves and contribute to the economy. Overall, the RAISE Act of 2023 represents a significant overhaul of the US immigration system, with a focus on attracting high-skilled immigrants and reducing family-based immigration. The bill is likely to spark debate and discussion in Congress as lawmakers consider the potential impact of these proposed changes.
