The bill focuses on creating and maintaining sidewalks, bike lanes, crosswalks, and other infrastructure that will make it safer for people to walk and bike in their communities.
The Safe Routes Act of 2023 allocates funding to states and local governments to support projects that improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. This funding can be used for a variety of purposes, including building new sidewalks and bike lanes, improving existing infrastructure, and implementing safety education programs.
In addition to funding infrastructure projects, the bill also includes provisions for data collection and analysis to track the effectiveness of these safety improvements. This data will be used to inform future decision-making and ensure that resources are being allocated effectively to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. Overall, the Safe Routes Act of 2023 is a bipartisan effort to prioritize the safety of pedestrians and cyclists and create a more sustainable and healthy transportation system. By investing in infrastructure improvements and data-driven decision-making, this bill aims to make communities across the country safer and more accessible for all residents.
