DETERRENT Act

The DETER Act, also known as Bill 118 s 3362, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of deterring hostile foreign actors from interfering in US elections. The bill focuses on imposing harsh penalties on individuals or entities that are found to have engaged in election interference.

One of the key provisions of the DETER Act is the requirement for the Director of National Intelligence to conduct an assessment of any foreign interference in US elections within 60 days of the election. If interference is found, the President is then required to impose sanctions on the responsible foreign government or individuals.

The bill also includes measures to increase transparency and accountability in the election process, such as requiring political campaigns to report any offers of assistance from foreign governments to the FBI. Additionally, the DETER Act establishes a National Fusion Center to coordinate efforts to combat foreign election interference.
