3/13/2024, 5:15 PM

Summary of Bill S 2739

Bill 118 s 2739, also known as the Mathematical and Statistical Modeling Education Act, aims to improve the quality of education in mathematical and statistical modeling in the United States. The bill focuses on enhancing the curriculum and resources available to students and teachers in these subjects.

One key aspect of the bill is the establishment of a grant program to provide funding for schools to develop and implement innovative teaching methods and materials for mathematical and statistical modeling. This will help ensure that students have access to up-to-date and effective resources to learn these important skills.

Additionally, the bill calls for the creation of a national advisory board on mathematical and statistical modeling education. This board will be responsible for providing guidance and recommendations to policymakers on how to improve education in these subjects at all levels, from elementary school through college. Overall, the Mathematical and Statistical Modeling Education Act seeks to address the growing importance of mathematical and statistical modeling in today's society and ensure that students are adequately prepared to succeed in an increasingly data-driven world. By investing in education in these areas, the bill aims to help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will benefit them in their future careers.

Congressional Summary of S 2739

Mathematical and Statistical Modeling Education Act

This bill requires the National Science Foundation (NSF) to take certain actions to increase mathematical and statistical modeling education in public elementary and secondary schools.

First, the NSF must provide competitive grants to institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations for research and development to support high-quality mathematical modeling education (e.g., data science and computational thinking) in schools.

In addition, the NSF must seek to enter into an agreement with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to study and report on mathematical and statistical modeling education in schools.
