2/5/2024, 2:30 PM
Summary of Bill HR 3768
The Midwives for MOMS Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 hr 3768, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress aimed at improving access to midwifery care for pregnant individuals. The bill seeks to address disparities in maternal health outcomes by expanding the availability of midwives and increasing support for midwifery education and training programs.
Specifically, the Midwives for MOMS Act of 2023 would provide funding for the recruitment and retention of midwives in underserved communities, as well as for the development of culturally competent midwifery care models. The bill also includes provisions for increasing Medicaid reimbursement rates for midwifery services and expanding access to midwifery care for individuals enrolled in Medicaid.
Additionally, the legislation calls for the establishment of a national database to track maternal health outcomes and the impact of midwifery care on those outcomes. This data collection and analysis would help to inform future policy decisions and ensure that midwifery care is effectively meeting the needs of pregnant individuals. Overall, the Midwives for MOMS Act of 2023 aims to improve maternal health outcomes, reduce disparities in access to care, and support the important role that midwives play in providing high-quality, patient-centered care to pregnant individuals.
