ALERT Parity Act
8/23/2023, 6:30 PM
Summary of Bill HR 9569
The ALERT Parity Act, also known as Bill 117 hr 9569, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to ensure that all emergency responders, including firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical technicians, are provided with the same benefits and protections when it comes to mental health services.
The bill aims to address the disparity in mental health coverage for emergency responders compared to other professions. It would require that all emergency responders have access to mental health services, including counseling and therapy, without facing any barriers or restrictions. This includes coverage for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health conditions that may arise as a result of their work.
Additionally, the ALERT Parity Act would establish a national database to track mental health services provided to emergency responders, in order to ensure that they are receiving the care they need. This database would also help to identify any gaps in coverage and areas where improvements can be made. Overall, the ALERT Parity Act seeks to prioritize the mental health and well-being of our nation's emergency responders, who often face high levels of stress and trauma in the line of duty. By providing them with equal access to mental health services, this bill aims to support the mental health and resilience of these essential workers.
