Summary of Bill HR 8084

Bill 117 hr 8084, also known as the Fire Recovery Improvement Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to provide additional resources and support for communities that have been affected by wildfires.

One key provision of the Fire Recovery Improvement Act is the allocation of funds for the restoration and rehabilitation of areas that have been damaged by wildfires. This includes funding for reforestation efforts, erosion control measures, and the rebuilding of infrastructure that has been destroyed by the fires.

Another important aspect of the bill is the establishment of a task force dedicated to studying and addressing the root causes of wildfires. This task force will be responsible for developing strategies to prevent future wildfires and mitigate their impact on communities. Additionally, the Fire Recovery Improvement Act includes provisions for improving communication and coordination between federal, state, and local agencies during wildfire response efforts. This is intended to ensure a more efficient and effective response to wildfires, ultimately reducing the damage they cause. Overall, the Fire Recovery Improvement Act aims to provide much-needed support for communities affected by wildfires and to prevent future wildfires from causing as much devastation. It is currently being debated in Congress, with bipartisan support for its passage.

Congressional Summary of HR 8084

Fire Recovery Improvement Act

This bill authorizes the Natural Resources Conservation Service of the Department of Agriculture to address post-wildfire flooding in certain communities adjacent to or downstream from Forest System land.

Specifically, the service may carry out watershed protection and flood prevention measures to address the effects of flooding in communities that are (1) located on land not under the jurisdiction of the Forest Service, and (2) threatened by post-wildfire flooding due to a post-wildfire burn scar on adjacent or upstream Forest Service lands. Upon receiving an independent hydraulic study that shows that severe and repetitive flooding is likely in such communities, the service may also carry out activities to mitigate potential effects of that flooding.
