Summary of Bill HR 5348
Bill 117 HR 5348, also known as the ESP Family Leave Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to provide employees with paid family and medical leave, specifically for the care of a child, spouse, or parent who has a serious health condition.
Under the ESP Family Leave Act, eligible employees would be able to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave in a 12-month period to care for a family member in need. This leave would be funded through the establishment of an Employee and Employer Social Security Payroll Tax, which would be split between the employer and employee.
In order to be eligible for this paid leave, employees must have worked for their employer for at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours in the previous year. The bill also includes provisions for job protection, ensuring that employees who take leave under this act will be able to return to their same or equivalent position upon their return. The ESP Family Leave Act aims to provide much-needed support for working families who are facing difficult circumstances due to a family member's serious health condition. By offering paid leave and job protection, this bill seeks to alleviate some of the financial and emotional burdens that can arise when caring for a loved one in need. Overall, the ESP Family Leave Act represents an important step towards ensuring that American workers have the support they need to balance their work and family responsibilities. It is currently under consideration in Congress, and its passage would have a significant impact on the lives of millions of working families across the country.
