Metropolitan Statistical Area Preservation Act

Summary of Bill HR 3999
Bill 117 HR 3999, also known as the Metropolitan Statistical Area Preservation Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address concerns regarding the potential reclassification of certain metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
The bill aims to prevent the OMB from changing the criteria used to define MSAs, which could result in the reclassification of certain areas as micropolitan statistical areas. This reclassification could have negative implications for funding, economic development, and representation for affected areas.
If passed, the Metropolitan Statistical Area Preservation Act would require the OMB to maintain the current criteria for defining MSAs and prohibit any changes that would result in the reclassification of existing MSAs. This would help ensure that communities currently designated as MSAs continue to receive the benefits and resources associated with this classification. Overall, the goal of Bill 117 HR 3999 is to preserve the integrity of metropolitan statistical areas and protect the interests of communities that rely on this designation for various purposes. The bill is currently under review in Congress, and its outcome will have significant implications for how MSAs are defined and classified in the future.
