American Broadband Deployment Act of 2025
4/21/2026, 9:41 PM
Summary of Bill HR 2289
The bill seeks to remove barriers that may delay the deployment of broadband infrastructure by streamlining the permitting process. By exempting eligible facilities requests from these reviews, the bill aims to facilitate the timely deployment of broadband infrastructure, which is crucial for expanding access to high-speed internet in underserved and rural areas.
Supporters of the bill argue that by reducing regulatory burdens, it will encourage investment in broadband infrastructure and help bridge the digital divide. However, critics raise concerns about potential environmental and historical preservation impacts that may result from bypassing these reviews. Overall, Bill 119 HR 2289 seeks to balance the need for efficient deployment of broadband infrastructure with the importance of protecting environmental and historical resources. It will be important for lawmakers to carefully consider the potential implications of this bill on both broadband expansion and environmental preservation as it moves through the legislative process.
Congressional Summary of HR 2289

In particular, the bill specifies that such projects are not considered major federal actions under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 or undertakings under the National Historic Preservation Act. This excludes the projects from relevant reviews required under those acts.

I think this bill is a step in the right direction for improving broadband access in rural areas like mine in SD. It aims to expand high-speed internet infrastructure, which could benefit me personally by allowing me to connect more easily with family and friends online. I hope this bill will help bridge the digital divide and bring more opportunities to underserved communities.

Hey y'all, I just wanted to say that I think this new bill about broadband stuff is pretty cool. I mean, like, it sounds like it's gonna help a lot of people get better internet, which is always a good thing, right? I'm not totally sure about all the details, but I think it's gonna be a positive thing in the long run. Can't wait to see how it all plays out! 🌐📶 #BroadbandForAll
