Electric Vehicles for Underserved Communities Act of 2021
3/8/2023, 7:58 PM
Summary of Bill HR 1221
Bill 117 HR 1221, also known as the Electric Vehicles for Underserved Communities Act of 2021, aims to increase access to electric vehicles (EVs) for low-income and disadvantaged communities in the United States. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on February 23, 2021, by Representative Doris Matsui of California.
The main provisions of the bill include establishing a grant program to provide funding for the deployment of EV charging infrastructure in underserved communities. This funding would help to address the lack of charging stations in these areas, making it easier for residents to own and operate EVs.
Additionally, the bill seeks to provide financial assistance to low-income individuals and families to help them purchase or lease EVs. This assistance could come in the form of rebates, tax credits, or other incentives to make EVs more affordable for those who may not otherwise be able to afford them. The Electric Vehicles for Underserved Communities Act of 2021 also includes provisions to support workforce development in the EV industry, with a focus on training and job opportunities for individuals in underserved communities. This would help to create new economic opportunities and promote job growth in these areas. Overall, the bill aims to address the disparities in access to clean transportation options by providing support for EV adoption in underserved communities. By increasing access to EVs and charging infrastructure, the bill seeks to promote environmental justice, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality in these communities.
