Pell to Grad Act
3/21/2025, 2:25 PM
Summary of Bill HR 1635
The proposed bill seeks to increase the maximum number of semesters a student can receive Pell Grants from 12 to 14, allowing students more time to complete their degree programs without worrying about running out of financial aid. This extension is intended to help students who may need additional time to complete their education due to factors such as changing majors, taking remedial courses, or facing other challenges that may delay their progress.
In addition to extending the period of eligibility, the bill also includes provisions to simplify the application process for Pell Grants and increase the maximum award amount. These changes are aimed at making higher education more accessible and affordable for low-income students, ultimately helping to increase college completion rates and reduce student debt. Overall, the Pell Grant Preservation and Expansion Act seeks to support students in pursuing their educational goals by providing them with the financial assistance they need to succeed in college. The bill is currently under consideration in the US Congress and has the potential to have a significant impact on the lives of millions of students across the country.

This bill is so dumb, why do they want to give more money to students for longer? It's a waste of taxpayer dollars. I don't want my hard-earned money going to lazy students who don't want to work. And did you know that this bill also includes a provision to increase the income threshold for Pell Grants? It's ridiculous!
