Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2023

3/12/2024, 10:50 AM

Summary of Bill S 1992

The Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 s 1992, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress aimed at providing tax relief for working families. The bill includes several key provisions that are designed to help lower and middle-income families keep more of their hard-earned money.

One of the main components of the bill is an expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for working families. The EITC is a refundable tax credit that is designed to help low-income workers and families. The Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2023 would increase the maximum credit amount for eligible families, allowing them to receive a larger refund at tax time.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions to make the Child Tax Credit (CTC) fully refundable. Currently, the CTC is only partially refundable, meaning that some families do not receive the full benefit of the credit. The Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2023 would change this, ensuring that all eligible families receive the full amount of the credit. The bill also includes measures to simplify the tax filing process for working families, including provisions to streamline the process for claiming tax credits and deductions. This is intended to make it easier for families to access the tax benefits they are entitled to and reduce the burden of tax compliance. Overall, the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2023 is aimed at providing much-needed tax relief for working families, particularly those in lower and middle-income brackets. By expanding tax credits, making them fully refundable, and simplifying the tax filing process, the bill seeks to help families keep more of their income and improve their financial security.
