Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act

3/6/2024, 8:15 AM

Summary of Bill HR 3601

Bill 118 HR 3601, also known as the Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act, aims to improve and modernize the work-study program for student veterans. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on June 24, 2021, by Representative Mike Levin from California.

The work-study program currently allows eligible student veterans to work part-time while attending school in order to earn additional income. However, the program has not been updated in many years and does not fully meet the needs of today's student veterans.

The Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act seeks to address these issues by expanding the types of work-study opportunities available to student veterans. This includes allowing student veterans to work in fields related to their course of study, such as internships or apprenticeships in their chosen career field. Additionally, the bill aims to increase the hourly wage for student veterans participating in the work-study program to ensure they are fairly compensated for their work. This increase in wages will help student veterans cover the cost of living expenses while attending school. Overall, the Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act is designed to provide student veterans with more opportunities to gain valuable work experience and earn additional income while pursuing their education. By modernizing and expanding the work-study program, this bill aims to better support the needs of student veterans and help them succeed in their academic and professional endeavors.
