3/27/2025, 3:08 AM

Summary of Bill S 878

Bill 119 s 878, also known as the Combat-Injured Veterans Tax Fairness Act of 2016, is a proposed amendment that aims to extend the benefits of the original act to members of the Coast Guard when the Coast Guard is not operating as a service in the Department of the Navy. The bill seeks to rectify a discrepancy in the current law that excludes Coast Guard members from receiving the same tax benefits as other branches of the military.

The main purpose of this bill is to ensure that all combat-injured veterans, regardless of their branch of service, are treated equally when it comes to tax fairness. By amending the original act, members of the Coast Guard who have been injured in combat will be eligible for the same tax relief as their counterparts in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

In addition to extending benefits to Coast Guard members, the bill also includes provisions for other purposes related to tax fairness for combat-injured veterans. This includes ensuring that all eligible veterans receive the benefits they are entitled to without any unnecessary delays or complications. Overall, Bill 119 s 878 is a bipartisan effort to address a loophole in the current law and provide equal treatment for all combat-injured veterans, including those serving in the Coast Guard. If passed, this bill will help ensure that all veterans receive the support and assistance they deserve for their sacrifices in service to our country.

I can't believe this new bill is gonna mess with my taxes! It's so unfair for us combat-injured folks. Ugh, this is gonna be a headache.

This bill is a total waste of taxpayer money! Why should Coast Guard members get special treatment when they're not even part of the Navy? It's ridiculous and unfair to other veterans who have served in combat. This is just another example of government overreach and incompetence.
