Summary of Bill HR 2539
Bill 119 HR 2539, also known as the "Milk Variety in Schools Act," aims to amend the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act to ensure that schools participating in the school lunch program offer a variety of milk options to students. This bill is designed to promote healthy choices and provide students with more options when it comes to their milk consumption.
Under this proposed legislation, schools would be required to offer a selection of different types of milk, such as low-fat, non-fat, and flavored milk, in addition to the traditional whole milk option. By offering a variety of milk choices, students can choose the option that best suits their dietary needs and preferences.
The bill also includes provisions to ensure that schools are able to comply with these new requirements, including providing technical assistance and guidance to help schools implement the changes effectively. Additionally, the bill aims to promote transparency and accountability by requiring schools to report on the types of milk offered to students. Overall, the Milk Variety in Schools Act seeks to improve the nutritional quality of school lunches and empower students to make healthier choices when it comes to their milk consumption. By offering a variety of milk options, schools can better meet the diverse needs of their student population and promote overall health and wellness.
