Service-Connected Suicide Compensation Act
4/1/2025, 4:23 AM
Summary of Bill HR 2264
Bill 119 hr 2264, also known as the "Veterans Suicide Prevention and Compensation Enhancement Act," aims to amend title 38 of the United States Code to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to automatically provide dependency and indemnity compensation to survivors of veterans with service-connected mental disorders who die by suicide.
Currently, survivors of veterans who die by suicide due to a service-connected physical injury are eligible for dependency and indemnity compensation. However, survivors of veterans who die by suicide as a result of a service-connected mental disorder are not automatically eligible for this compensation.
This bill seeks to rectify this discrepancy by ensuring that survivors of veterans with service-connected mental disorders who die by suicide receive the same benefits as survivors of veterans with service-connected physical injuries. By automatically providing this compensation to eligible survivors, the bill aims to alleviate financial burdens and provide support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. Overall, the "Veterans Suicide Prevention and Compensation Enhancement Act" aims to improve support for survivors of veterans with service-connected mental disorders who die by suicide, ensuring that they receive the compensation they deserve.
