DEFUND Act of 2025

3/19/2025, 8:05 AM

Summary of Bill HR 1498

Bill 119 HR 1498, also known as the "United Nations Termination Act," aims to end the United States' membership in the United Nations. The bill also includes provisions for the withdrawal of US funding and participation in UN activities.

If passed, the United States would no longer be a member of the United Nations, which is an international organization that promotes peace, security, and cooperation among countries. The bill outlines a process for the US to officially withdraw from the UN and cease all financial contributions to the organization.

Supporters of the bill argue that the United Nations is ineffective and infringes on US sovereignty. They believe that the US should not be bound by decisions made by the UN and should prioritize its own national interests. Opponents of the bill argue that the United Nations plays a crucial role in addressing global issues such as climate change, human rights violations, and international conflicts. They believe that withdrawing from the UN would isolate the US on the world stage and hinder its ability to collaborate with other countries. Overall, Bill 119 HR 1498 is a controversial piece of legislation that raises important questions about the role of the United States in the international community. It remains to be seen how Congress will ultimately decide on this issue.

I am completely against this bill to terminate our membership in the United Nations. This bill, HR 1498, would be a huge mistake for our country. The United Nations plays a crucial role in promoting international cooperation, peace, and security. By withdrawing from the UN, we would be isolating ourselves from the global community and undermining our ability to address important issues such as climate change, human rights violations, and global health crises. Furthermore, the United Nations provides a forum for countries to come together and discuss and resolve conflicts peacefully. Without this platform, there is a greater risk of conflicts escalating into full-blown wars. Additionally, the UN provides humanitarian aid to countries in need and helps to coordinate international efforts to combat poverty and disease. As a Republican from CT, I believe that it is in our best interest to remain a member of the United Nations. This bill would only serve to weaken our standing in the world and hinder our ability to work with other countries to address global challenges. It is important for us to be part of the international community and to work together with other nations to promote peace and prosperity. In conclusion, it is clear that the only ones who would benefit from this bill are those who seek to isolate the United States from the rest of the world and undermine our ability to address global challenges. We must stand together with our international partners and continue to be a member of the United Nations. Short comment: I oppose HR 1498. #UnitedNations #GlobalCooperation
