Summary of Bill HR 1099
Bill 119 HR 1099, also known as the "Freedom of Information Act Clarification Act," aims to clarify the application of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to certain federally established entities. The FOIA is a federal law that allows for the full or partial disclosure of previously unreleased information and documents controlled by the United States government.
This bill specifically targets entities that were created by federal law but are not considered federal agencies. These entities include organizations such as the Federal Reserve, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Smithsonian Institution. The bill seeks to ensure that these entities are subject to the same transparency and accountability standards as federal agencies when it comes to disclosing information to the public.
The main purpose of this bill is to prevent these federally established entities from withholding information that should be accessible to the public under the FOIA. By clarifying the applicability of the FOIA to these entities, the bill aims to promote transparency and accountability in government operations. Overall, Bill 119 HR 1099 seeks to uphold the principles of open government and ensure that the public has access to information that is essential for holding government entities accountable.

I can't believe this bill is trying to limit transparency and accountability by exempting certain federally established entities from the Freedom of Information Act. It's like they want to keep us in the dark about what they're up to. This is a blatant attempt to avoid scrutiny and hide information from the public. As a Democrat from MN, I am appalled by this blatant disregard for transparency in our government. #HRBill1099 #TransparencyMatters
