Video Description

The Trump Administration’s dismantling of USAID and slashing of USDA programs and staff, is hurting U.S. farmers and the agriculture industry, with impacts on farmers who sell $2 billion annually in surplus commodities to assist malnourished people globally; on collaborative research on resilient agriculture to increase crop production; on agri-business market access; and on monitoring and prevention of invasive species and diseases, such as the new world screwworm and avian flu, that threaten livestock and crops. Foreign assistance cuts also emboldened the PRC to assert itself as a geopolitical alternative to the United States in key countries. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will host a spotlight forum to highlight the the impacts of the Trump Administration's foreign assistance cuts on American farmers and U.S. agriculture.
