Video Description
On October 1, 2020, Ranking Member Bishop requested unanimous consent for immediate consideration in the House of S. 886, the Indian Water Rights Settlement Extension Act. S. 886, which passed the Senate with bipartisan support on June 4, includes Bishop's legislation, H.R. 644 - Navajo Utah Water Rights Settlement Act. In order to address COVID-19, the public must be able to take basic preventative measures such as hand washing. The lack of running water for more than 40 percent of the population on the Navajo Reservation has made the residents of the reservation disproportionately susceptible to the virus. The House has an opportunity to take immediate action to mitigate future COVID-19 outbreaks and address the drinking water crisis on the Navajo Reservation by passing S. 886. Unfortunately, Democrats rejected Bishop's request to act on the bill.
