Roberto Clemente Commemorative Coin Act
3/28/2025, 12:37 PM
Summary of Bill S 877
Bill 119 s 877, also known as the Roberto Clemente Commemorative Coin Act, is a proposed piece of legislation that calls for the Secretary of the Treasury to mint commemorative coins in honor of the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente.
Roberto Clemente was a legendary Puerto Rican baseball player who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball. He was known for his exceptional skills on the field as well as his humanitarian efforts off the field. Clemente tragically died in a plane crash while on a mission to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua in 1972.
The bill aims to recognize Clemente's contributions to both the sport of baseball and to humanitarian causes by minting commemorative coins in his honor. These coins would serve as a tribute to Clemente's legacy and would help to raise awareness of his impact on the world. If passed, the Roberto Clemente Commemorative Coin Act would require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint a limited number of coins in recognition of Clemente's achievements. The coins would likely feature images of Clemente and other symbols related to his life and career. Overall, this bill seeks to honor the memory of Roberto Clemente and to celebrate his lasting impact on the world. It is a bipartisan effort to pay tribute to a true sports icon and humanitarian.

I don't understand why they want to make coins for Roberto Clemente. Who is he and why is this important? Will this bill affect my taxes or something? What are the long term affects of this?

Ugh, this thing is so dumb. Why do we need this? It's just a waste of money. I don't see how this is gonna help anyone. Long term, it's gonna be a mess.
