Summary of Bill S 28

Bill 119 s 28, also known as the "Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act," is a piece of legislation that aims to enhance the security and privacy of internet-connected devices. The bill specifically focuses on requiring manufacturers to disclose the presence of a camera or recording capability in certain IoT devices.

Under this bill, manufacturers of internet-connected devices such as smart TVs, smart home devices, and other IoT products would be required to inform consumers if the device has the capability to record audio or video. This disclosure would need to be made prominently on the packaging of the device or in the product description.

The goal of this legislation is to increase transparency and awareness among consumers about the potential privacy risks associated with IoT devices that have recording capabilities. By providing this information upfront, consumers can make more informed decisions about the devices they bring into their homes and better protect their privacy. Overall, Bill 119 s 28 seeks to address the growing concerns around privacy and security in the rapidly expanding IoT market. By requiring manufacturers to disclose the presence of recording capabilities in their devices, this bill aims to empower consumers to make more informed choices and protect their personal information.

I don't like this new bill about smart devices. It says companies have to tell us what data they collect, but I don't want them to know everything about me. Who else is worried about this?

I don't get why this bill is tryna mess with my smart devices. Like, why do I need to be told more stuff about them? It's just gonna make things more complicated for me. Can't they just leave it alone? #confused
