School Guardian Act of 2025
4/12/2025, 2:53 AM
Summary of Bill S 1189
Bill 119 s 1189, also known as the "School Resource Officer Act," is a proposed piece of legislation that aims to address school safety by providing block grants to assign armed law enforcement officers to elementary and secondary schools. The bill seeks to increase security measures in schools by funding the placement of trained officers on school campuses.
If passed, this bill would allocate federal funds in the form of block grants to states, which would then distribute the funds to local school districts to hire and train armed law enforcement officers. These officers, known as School Resource Officers (SROs), would be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff, as well as preventing and responding to potential threats or incidents of violence.
Proponents of the bill argue that having armed law enforcement officers present in schools can help deter acts of violence and provide a quick response in the event of an emergency. They believe that SROs can build positive relationships with students and serve as mentors, in addition to their primary role of ensuring school safety. Critics of the bill, however, raise concerns about the potential negative impact of having armed officers in schools, particularly on students of color and those with disabilities. They argue that the presence of SROs can contribute to the school-to-prison pipeline and disproportionately target marginalized communities. Overall, Bill 119 s 1189 aims to address the issue of school safety by providing funding for the placement of armed law enforcement officers in elementary and secondary schools. The bill is currently under consideration in the US Congress and has sparked debate among lawmakers and advocacy groups.

I can't believe this new thing they're trying to pass, it's just not right. I don't think it's gonna help anyone, just gonna cause more problems. I hope they rethink this whole situation.
