Exported Carbon Emissions Report Act of 2025

2/11/2025, 5:08 AM

Summary of Bill HR 382

Bill 119 hr 382, also known as the "Exported Emissions Act," aims to hold the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accountable for tracking and reporting on carbon dioxide and methane emissions that occur outside of the United States as a result of fossil fuel exports. The bill requires the EPA Administrator to collect, calculate, and publish data on these emissions, providing transparency and accountability for the environmental impact of US fossil fuel exports.

The purpose of this legislation is to ensure that the US takes responsibility for the emissions that result from the production and consumption of fossil fuels that are exported to other countries. By tracking and reporting on these emissions, policymakers and the public will have a better understanding of the global impact of US fossil fuel exports on climate change.

The Exported Emissions Act is a non-partisan effort to address the environmental consequences of US fossil fuel exports and to promote greater transparency in reporting on greenhouse gas emissions. This bill reflects a growing recognition of the need to consider the global impact of domestic energy production and consumption, and to take steps to mitigate the environmental harm caused by fossil fuel exports.
