Dual Loyalty Disclosure Act
4/4/2025, 5:08 AM
Summary of Bill HR 2356
Bill 119 HR 2356, also known as the "Foreign Citizenship Disclosure Act," aims to amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require candidates to disclose whether they are citizens of any country other than the United States when designating a principal campaign committee. This information would be included in the statement required under the Act.
The purpose of this bill is to increase transparency and ensure that voters are aware of any potential conflicts of interest that may arise from a candidate holding citizenship in another country. By requiring candidates to disclose this information, voters can make more informed decisions when choosing who to support in an election.
The bill does not specify any penalties for candidates who fail to disclose their foreign citizenship, but it does provide for the information to be made publicly available. This would allow voters, the media, and other interested parties to access this information and hold candidates accountable for any potential conflicts of interest. Overall, the Foreign Citizenship Disclosure Act seeks to promote transparency and accountability in the electoral process by requiring candidates to disclose whether they hold citizenship in any country other than the United States.
