Federal Firearms Licensee Protection Act of 2025
4/1/2025, 8:06 AM
Summary of Bill HR 1773
Bill 119 hr 1773, also known as the "Firearm Theft Prevention Act," aims to amend chapter 44 of title 18, United States Code, in order to increase penalties for the theft of firearms from Federal firearms licensees. The bill seeks to address the issue of stolen firearms being used in crimes by imposing stricter punishments on individuals who steal firearms from licensed dealers.
Under the proposed legislation, individuals convicted of stealing a firearm from a Federal firearms licensee would face enhanced penalties, including longer prison sentences and higher fines. This is intended to serve as a deterrent to potential thieves and reduce the number of stolen firearms entering the illegal market.
The bill has garnered bipartisan support in Congress, with lawmakers from both parties recognizing the importance of preventing gun thefts and keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals. Supporters of the bill argue that by increasing penalties for firearm theft, law enforcement will be better equipped to combat gun violence and protect public safety. Overall, Bill 119 hr 1773 seeks to strengthen existing laws related to firearm theft and enhance the consequences for those who engage in this criminal activity. If passed, the legislation could have a significant impact on reducing the illegal trafficking of stolen firearms and improving overall gun safety in the United States.
