Consumer Safety Technology Act

8/9/2025, 5:41 PM

Summary of Bill HR 1770

Bill 119 HR 1770, also known as the "Consumer Product Safety Commission Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Technology Pilot Program Act," aims to direct the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to establish a pilot program to investigate the potential use of artificial intelligence in furthering the mission of the Commission. The bill also calls for the Secretary of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission to conduct a study and report on the use of blockchain technology and tokens, respectively.

The pilot program for artificial intelligence would allow the CPSC to explore how AI can be utilized to enhance consumer product safety measures. This could involve using AI algorithms to analyze data on product safety incidents, identify trends, and predict potential hazards. By leveraging AI technology, the CPSC hopes to improve its ability to protect consumers from dangerous products and respond more effectively to safety concerns.

In addition to the AI pilot program, the bill mandates a study on blockchain technology and tokens by the Secretary of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission. Blockchain technology, which is the underlying technology behind cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, has the potential to revolutionize various industries by providing secure and transparent record-keeping systems. The study will examine how blockchain technology can be used in consumer protection efforts and how tokens (digital assets) can impact consumer transactions. Overall, Bill 119 HR 1770 seeks to promote innovation in consumer protection efforts by exploring the potential benefits of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology. By conducting these pilot programs and studies, the CPSC, Secretary of Commerce, and Federal Trade Commission aim to better understand how these emerging technologies can be leveraged to enhance consumer safety and regulatory practices.
