Summary of Bill HR 1699
Bill 119 hr 1699, also known as the TRICARE Obstetrics and Gynecology Pilot Program Act, aims to allow TRICARE Prime beneficiaries to access obstetrical and gynecological care without needing a referral. TRICARE Prime is a health care program for active duty service members, retirees, and their families.
The bill directs the Secretary of Defense to carry out a pilot program to test this new policy. This means that a TRICARE Prime beneficiary who needs obstetrical or gynecological care would be able to see a specialist directly, without having to first get a referral from their primary care provider.
The purpose of this pilot program is to evaluate the impact of removing the referral requirement on access to care, patient satisfaction, and health outcomes for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries. The bill also includes provisions for reporting and evaluating the results of the pilot program. Overall, the TRICARE Obstetrics and Gynecology Pilot Program Act seeks to improve access to care for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries in need of obstetrical and gynecological services by removing the referral requirement.
