CLEAN Elections Act
2/1/2025, 4:53 AM
Summary of Bill HR 158
Bill 119 HR 158, also known as the "Independent Redistricting Commission Act," aims to address the issue of gerrymandering in congressional redistricting. The bill proposes that independent nonpartisan commissions be responsible for drawing congressional district boundaries, rather than allowing politicians to manipulate the boundaries for their own political gain.
The bill outlines the criteria for selecting members of these commissions, ensuring that they are truly independent and free from partisan influence. It also requires transparency in the redistricting process, with public hearings and opportunities for input from the community.
By implementing independent redistricting commissions, the bill seeks to promote fairness and accountability in the redistricting process, ultimately leading to more representative and responsive congressional districts. This legislation has the potential to reduce political polarization and increase voter confidence in the electoral system.
