6/14/2025, 8:06 PM
Summary of Bill HR 1147
Bill 119 hr 1147, also known as the Veterans Advisory Committee on Equal Access Act, aims to make changes to title 38 of the United States Code in order to create a new committee focused on ensuring equal access to benefits and services for veterans. The bill proposes the establishment of the Veterans Advisory Committee on Equal Access, which will be responsible for advising the Department of Veterans Affairs on ways to improve access to healthcare, benefits, and other services for veterans.
The committee will be composed of 15 members, including veterans who have experience with accessing VA services, as well as experts in healthcare, mental health, and other relevant fields. The members will be appointed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and will serve for a term of three years.
The main goal of the committee is to identify barriers that prevent veterans from accessing the benefits and services they are entitled to, and to make recommendations on how to address these barriers. The committee will also be tasked with monitoring the implementation of these recommendations and reporting back to Congress on their progress. Overall, the Veterans Advisory Committee on Equal Access Act seeks to improve the quality of care and support available to veterans by ensuring that all veterans have equal access to the benefits and services they have earned through their service to our country.
