Summary of Bill S 516
The Fair Wages for Incarcerated Workers Act of 2023, also known as Bill 118 s 516, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to ensure that incarcerated individuals are paid fair wages for the work they perform while in prison.
Under the provisions of the bill, incarcerated workers would be entitled to receive wages that are commensurate with the prevailing wage rates in the area where the prison is located. This would help to ensure that incarcerated individuals are not exploited for their labor and are able to earn a fair income for the work they do.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions to protect the rights of incarcerated workers, such as prohibiting the use of forced labor and ensuring that workers are provided with safe working conditions. The bill also aims to provide opportunities for incarcerated individuals to gain valuable job skills and training that can help them successfully reenter society upon their release. Overall, the Fair Wages for Incarcerated Workers Act of 2023 seeks to address issues of exploitation and inequality within the prison labor system, and to ensure that incarcerated individuals are treated fairly and with dignity while serving their sentences.
