Bill 118 s 3568, also known as the American Battlefield Protection Program Enhancement Act of 2024, aims to enhance the American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) by providing additional resources and support for the preservation of historic battlefields across the United States. The ABPP was established in 1996 to help protect and preserve significant battlefields from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War.

The key provisions of this bill include increasing funding for the ABPP to support the acquisition of battlefield land, the development of preservation plans, and the promotion of public awareness and education about the importance of preserving these historic sites. The bill also seeks to expand the scope of the ABPP to include battlefields from other conflicts in American history, such as the Spanish-American War and World War I.

Additionally, the bill calls for the establishment of a grant program to provide financial assistance to state and local governments, non-profit organizations, and private landowners for the preservation and interpretation of historic battlefields. It also encourages partnerships between federal, state, and local entities to coordinate efforts to protect and maintain these important cultural resources. Overall, the American Battlefield Protection Program Enhancement Act of 2024 aims to ensure that future generations can continue to learn from and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who fought on these hallowed grounds. By providing increased funding and support for the preservation of historic battlefields, this bill seeks to honor the legacy of those who have served and safeguard these important pieces of American history for years to come.
