Reuse Excess Property Act
10/5/2024, 11:03 AM
Summary of Bill S 2685
The bill aims to establish a process for identifying and transferring excess federal property to state and local governments, as well as to non-profit organizations and other eligible entities. This would allow for the property to be put to better use and potentially save taxpayer dollars by reducing maintenance costs on unused or underutilized properties.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the establishment of a Federal Real Property Council, which would be responsible for overseeing the identification and transfer of excess property. The council would also be tasked with developing a comprehensive inventory of federal real property and creating a database to track the status of excess property transfers. Overall, the Reuse Excess Property Act seeks to streamline the process of transferring excess federal property to entities that can make better use of it, ultimately leading to more efficient use of taxpayer dollars and potentially benefiting local communities.
