Summary of Bill S 1135
Bill 118 s 1135, also known as Ally's Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress that aims to improve access to hearing aids for individuals with hearing loss. The bill is named after Ally Tumblin, a young girl who was born with bilateral microtia and atresia, a condition that affects the development of the outer ear and ear canal.
Ally's Act seeks to address the high cost of hearing aids, which can be a barrier for many individuals in need of these devices. The bill proposes to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to allow for the sale of over-the-counter hearing aids, which would make them more affordable and accessible to consumers.
Additionally, Ally's Act includes provisions to ensure that over-the-counter hearing aids meet certain safety and quality standards. The bill requires the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to establish regulations for the sale of these devices, including labeling requirements and consumer protections. Overall, Ally's Act aims to make hearing aids more affordable and accessible for individuals with hearing loss, ultimately improving their quality of life. The bill has received bipartisan support in Congress and is currently being considered for passage.
