Summary of Bill HR 2439
Bill 118 hr 2439, also known as Ally's Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress that aims to improve access to hearing aids for individuals with hearing loss. The bill is named after Ally Tumblin, a young girl who was born with bilateral microtia and atresia, a condition that affects the development of the outer ear and ear canal.
Ally's Act seeks to address the high cost of hearing aids, which can be a barrier for many individuals in need of these devices. The bill would require insurance companies to provide coverage for hearing aids and related services for children and adults with hearing loss. It also aims to streamline the process for obtaining hearing aids by allowing individuals to purchase them directly from licensed hearing aid dispensers, rather than requiring a prescription from an audiologist.
Additionally, Ally's Act includes provisions to improve access to telehealth services for individuals with hearing loss, allowing them to receive remote consultations and follow-up care from audiologists and other healthcare providers. Overall, Ally's Act is a bipartisan effort to make hearing aids more affordable and accessible for individuals with hearing loss, with the goal of improving their quality of life and overall well-being.
