Reserve Component Parental Leave Parity Act of 2023
3/4/2024, 4:00 PM
Summary of Bill S 1095
Bill 118 s 1095, also known as the Reserve Component Parental Leave Parity Act of 2023, aims to provide equal parental leave benefits to members of the reserve components of the United States Armed Forces. Currently, members of the reserve components, such as the National Guard and Reserves, do not receive the same amount of parental leave as their active duty counterparts.
The bill seeks to rectify this disparity by ensuring that members of the reserve components are entitled to the same amount of parental leave as active duty service members. This means that reserve component members would be able to take up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth or adoption of a child, just like their active duty counterparts.
The bill recognizes the sacrifices and commitments made by members of the reserve components and aims to provide them with the same benefits and support as active duty service members. By ensuring parity in parental leave benefits, the bill seeks to promote retention and recruitment within the reserve components and support the overall well-being of military families. Overall, the Reserve Component Parental Leave Parity Act of 2023 is a bipartisan effort to ensure that all members of the United States Armed Forces, regardless of their component, have access to equal parental leave benefits.
