Summary of Bill HR 4875
The Doctors in our Borders Act, also known as Bill 118 hr 4875, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in underserved areas along the US-Mexico border.
The bill proposes several measures to increase the number of doctors and other healthcare providers in these areas. One key provision is the establishment of a scholarship program for medical students who commit to practicing in border communities upon graduation. This is aimed at incentivizing healthcare professionals to work in areas that are often overlooked or underserved.
Additionally, the bill seeks to streamline the process for foreign-trained doctors to practice in the United States. This would help to fill gaps in healthcare coverage in border regions by allowing qualified professionals from other countries to work in the US. Overall, the Doctors in our Borders Act aims to improve access to healthcare for residents of border communities by increasing the number of doctors and healthcare providers in these areas. It is currently being debated in Congress, with supporters arguing that it is a necessary step to address the healthcare disparities that exist along the US-Mexico border.

Doctors in our Borders Act
This bill increases the number of Conrad 30 waivers available each year from 30 to 100.
Typically, a J-1 visa holder (nonimmigrant exchange visitor) must leave the United States for two years after finishing the exchange visitor program, including J-1 visa holders who entered the United States to receive graduate medical training. The Conrad 30 waiver program waives this requirement for eligible foreign medical graduates who agree to practice medicine in an underserved area or for an underserved population in the United States.
