Summary of Bill HR 4544
Bill 118 hr 4544, also known as the "Help America Vote Act Amendment," aims to make changes to the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The main focus of this bill is to prohibit the use of Federal funds for election administration in States that allow ballot harvesting.
Ballot harvesting is the practice of collecting and submitting ballots on behalf of other individuals. Supporters of ballot harvesting argue that it helps increase voter turnout, especially among marginalized communities. However, critics of the practice believe that it opens the door to potential fraud and manipulation of election results.
If passed, this bill would prevent States that permit ballot harvesting from receiving Federal funds for election administration. This could have significant implications for how elections are conducted in those States, as they would have to find alternative sources of funding for their election processes. Overall, the Help America Vote Act Amendment seeks to address concerns about the integrity of the election process by restricting the use of Federal funds in States that allow ballot harvesting. It will be interesting to see how this bill progresses through Congress and what impact it may have on future elections.
