Defund the CCP On Campus Act of 2023
12/15/2023, 3:58 PM
Summary of Bill HR 3757
Bill 118 hr 3757, also known as the Defund the CCP On Campus Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of prohibiting any federal funding to institutions of higher education that have partnerships or agreements with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The bill specifically targets universities and colleges that have established relationships with the CCP, whether through research collaborations, exchange programs, or other forms of cooperation. It seeks to prevent these institutions from receiving any federal grants, loans, or other financial assistance.
Supporters of the bill argue that such partnerships with the CCP pose a threat to national security and intellectual property rights, as well as undermine academic freedom and promote censorship. They believe that cutting off federal funding to these institutions will help protect American interests and values. Opponents of the bill, however, argue that it unfairly targets academic institutions and could have negative consequences for international cooperation and research. They believe that partnerships with the CCP can be beneficial for advancing knowledge and understanding between countries. Overall, the Defund the CCP On Campus Act of 2023 is a controversial piece of legislation that raises important questions about the balance between national security concerns and academic freedom. It remains to be seen how the bill will progress through Congress and what impact it may have on US-China relations and higher education in the future.
