Summary of Bill HR 3226

Bill 118 HR 3226, also known as the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation that aims to reauthorize and improve programs that support research and education on preterm birth and infant mortality. The bill builds upon the original PREEMIE Act, which was first enacted in 2006.

The main goals of the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act of 2023 are to continue funding for research on preterm birth and infant mortality, improve data collection and analysis related to these issues, and enhance education and outreach efforts to raise awareness about the risks and prevention of preterm birth.

Specifically, the bill includes provisions to expand research on the causes and prevention of preterm birth, improve the collection and reporting of data on preterm birth rates, and enhance education and training for healthcare providers on best practices for preventing preterm birth and caring for preterm infants. Additionally, the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act of 2023 seeks to increase funding for programs that support families affected by preterm birth, such as the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program and the Healthy Start Initiative. Overall, the bill aims to address the ongoing public health crisis of preterm birth and infant mortality by supporting research, data collection, education, and outreach efforts to improve outcomes for preterm infants and their families.
