12/15/2023, 3:57 PM

Summary of Bill HR 2945

Bill 118 HR 2945, also known as the Excess Urban Heat Mitigation Act of 2023, aims to address the growing issue of urban heat islands in cities across the United States. Urban heat islands are areas where temperatures are significantly higher than surrounding rural areas due to human activities and infrastructure.

The bill proposes several measures to mitigate the effects of excess urban heat, including the creation of a grant program to fund projects that reduce heat in urban areas. These projects could include planting trees, installing green roofs, and implementing cool pavement technologies.

Additionally, the bill calls for the development of a national strategy to address urban heat islands, which would involve collaboration between federal, state, and local governments, as well as community organizations and businesses. This strategy would aim to increase awareness of the issue, improve data collection and monitoring, and promote best practices for heat mitigation. Overall, the Excess Urban Heat Mitigation Act of 2023 seeks to combat the negative impacts of urban heat islands on public health, energy consumption, and the environment by implementing targeted strategies to reduce heat in urban areas.
