Restoring Rights of Medical Residents Act
12/15/2023, 3:57 PM
Summary of Bill HR 2858
Bill 118 hr 2858, also known as the Restoring Rights of Medical Residents Act, aims to address the issue of long work hours and lack of protections for medical residents. The bill seeks to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to ensure that medical residents are treated fairly and have the same rights as other workers.
Specifically, the bill would limit the number of hours that medical residents can work in a week to 80 hours, with a required 24-hour rest period every seven days. This is in line with current regulations for other workers in the United States.
Additionally, the bill would require medical residency programs to provide adequate supervision and support for residents, as well as access to mental health services. This is important as medical residents often face high levels of stress and burnout due to the demanding nature of their work. Overall, the Restoring Rights of Medical Residents Act aims to improve working conditions for medical residents and ensure that they are able to provide quality care to patients while also taking care of their own well-being.
