Summary of Bill HR 2824
Bill 118 hr 2824, also known as the FIGDA Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The purpose of this bill is to address issues related to financial institutions and government data access.
The FIGDA Act of 2023 aims to improve the process by which financial institutions provide access to customer data to government agencies for investigative purposes. The bill seeks to establish clear guidelines and procedures for how this data can be accessed, ensuring that privacy rights are protected while also allowing for effective law enforcement and national security efforts.
One key aspect of the FIGDA Act of 2023 is the requirement for financial institutions to develop and implement data access policies that comply with the standards set forth in the bill. These policies must outline the procedures for responding to government requests for customer data, as well as the safeguards that will be put in place to protect the privacy and security of this information. Additionally, the bill includes provisions for increased oversight and accountability in the data access process. It requires regular reporting on the number and nature of government requests for customer data, as well as audits to ensure compliance with the law. Overall, the FIGDA Act of 2023 aims to strike a balance between the needs of law enforcement and national security agencies to access financial data for investigative purposes, and the rights of individuals to privacy and data security. It seeks to establish clear guidelines and procedures for data access, while also ensuring that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect the privacy of individuals.
