Summary of Bill HR 161
Bill 118 hr 161, also known as the Prioritizing Troops Over Tax Collectors Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main goal of this bill is to prioritize the needs of military service members over those of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when it comes to certain tax collection activities.
Specifically, the bill aims to prevent the IRS from taking certain enforcement actions against military service members who are deployed or serving in combat zones. This includes actions such as levying bank accounts, garnishing wages, or seizing property in order to collect unpaid taxes.
The bill also includes provisions to ensure that military service members are provided with adequate support and resources to help them meet their tax obligations while serving their country. This includes providing access to tax assistance services, education on tax laws and requirements, and assistance in resolving any tax issues that may arise. Overall, the Prioritizing Troops Over Tax Collectors Act of 2023 seeks to ensure that military service members are able to focus on their duties without the added stress of dealing with tax collection activities. It is aimed at providing support and protection for those who sacrifice so much to defend our country.
