Accredited Investor Definition Review Act

12/15/2023, 3:55 PM

Summary of Bill HR 1579

The Bill 118 hr 1579, also known as the Accredited Investor Definition Review Act, is a piece of legislation currently being considered by the US Congress. The main purpose of this bill is to review and potentially revise the definition of an accredited investor.

An accredited investor is an individual or entity that is allowed to participate in certain types of private investment opportunities, such as hedge funds and private equity funds. Currently, the definition of an accredited investor is based on income and net worth thresholds set by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The Accredited Investor Definition Review Act aims to reassess these thresholds and determine if they are still appropriate in today's financial landscape. The bill seeks to ensure that the definition of an accredited investor is inclusive of individuals who may have the knowledge and experience to participate in these types of investments, even if they do not meet the current income and net worth requirements. If passed, the Accredited Investor Definition Review Act could potentially open up more investment opportunities to a wider range of individuals, while still maintaining investor protections. The bill is currently in the early stages of the legislative process, and it remains to be seen how it will progress through Congress.
