Summary of Bill HR 124
Bill 118 HR 124, also known as the Byron Nash Renal Medullary Carcinoma Awareness Act of 2023, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress with the aim of raising awareness about renal medullary carcinoma (RMC), a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer that primarily affects young adults and is associated with sickle cell trait.
The bill is named after Byron Nash, a young man who tragically lost his life to RMC, and seeks to honor his memory by increasing public knowledge about this deadly disease. The legislation calls for the establishment of a national awareness campaign to educate the public, healthcare providers, and policymakers about RMC, its risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options.
Additionally, the bill proposes funding for research into RMC, with the goal of improving early detection methods, developing more effective treatments, and ultimately finding a cure for this devastating illness. It also aims to support patients and families affected by RMC by providing resources and support services. Overall, Bill 118 HR 124 is a bipartisan effort to address the urgent need for greater awareness and research funding for renal medullary carcinoma, with the ultimate goal of saving lives and improving outcomes for those affected by this rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer.
