Summary of Bill HR 1191

Bill 118 hr 1191, also known as the Correcting Guam's History in the PACT Act, is a piece of legislation introduced in the US Congress. The bill aims to address historical inaccuracies in the Political Status Education Coordinating Commission (PACT) Act, which was passed in 2019.

The PACT Act was intended to educate the people of Guam about the island's political status and the various options available for its future. However, it has been criticized for containing inaccuracies and omissions regarding Guam's history and relationship with the United States.

The Correcting Guam's History in the PACT Act seeks to rectify these errors by requiring the PACT Commission to revise its educational materials to accurately reflect Guam's history and political status. The bill also mandates that the Commission consult with historians and experts in Guamanian history to ensure the accuracy of the information presented. In addition, the bill provides funding for the revision of the educational materials and requires the Commission to report to Congress on its progress in implementing the changes. Overall, the Correcting Guam's History in the PACT Act aims to provide the people of Guam with a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of their island's history and political status.
