Summary of Bill HR 10460
Bill 118 hr 10460, also known as the Monterey Bay National Heritage Area Study Act, authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study to determine if certain land in California is suitable and feasible for designation as the Monterey Bay National Heritage Area. The purpose of this designation is to recognize and preserve the cultural, historical, and natural resources of the area.
The study will assess the potential benefits of designating the Monterey Bay region as a National Heritage Area, including increased tourism, economic development, and preservation of important historical sites. The Secretary of the Interior will work with local stakeholders, including government agencies, tribal organizations, and community groups, to gather input and information for the study.
If the study determines that the Monterey Bay region meets the criteria for designation as a National Heritage Area, the Secretary of the Interior will submit a report to Congress outlining the findings and recommendations for next steps. This could include the development of a management plan and the establishment of a coordinating entity to oversee the preservation and promotion of the area. Overall, the Monterey Bay National Heritage Area Study Act aims to protect and celebrate the unique heritage of the Monterey Bay region in California, while also promoting sustainable economic growth and tourism opportunities.
