Summary of Bill HJRES 20

Bill 118 hjres 20, also known as the Term Limits Amendment, proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the United States that would limit the number of consecutive terms that a Member of Congress may serve. The purpose of this amendment is to address concerns about career politicians and promote turnover in Congress.

If passed, this amendment would restrict Members of Congress to serving a maximum of three consecutive terms in the House of Representatives and two consecutive terms in the Senate. After reaching the term limit, a Member of Congress would be required to step down and would be eligible to run for re-election after sitting out for one full term.

Supporters of the Term Limits Amendment argue that it would help prevent corruption, promote fresh ideas and perspectives, and encourage more citizen participation in government. Critics, however, argue that term limits could lead to a loss of institutional knowledge and experience, and could potentially weaken the effectiveness of Congress. Overall, the Term Limits Amendment is a controversial proposal that seeks to address the issue of career politicians in Congress. It will be up to the American people and their elected representatives to decide whether or not to support this amendment and potentially change the way Congress operates.
